The New Profiteers

Something I heard just today. A couple weeks ago, before COVID really hit New Mexico, trucks from Texas appeared in nearly every community and bought up toilet paper from every outlet, including convenience stories like 7-11, then carried them back home.
I kind of admire the enterprise of these guys, but I also want to shoot them in the head.
“Reno, are you there?”
“Yes.”
“Hand this Texan’s ass to him.”
One of my favorite passages from “Hardwired”. Why that has not that book been made into a movie? The producers would not have to write any new dialogue and it would be a smash hit.
If you know any film producers with $200 million lying around, feel free to give them my phone number.
Alas, I find a distinct lack of film producers with beaucoup bucks in my Rolodex. I do know a retired director for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival…not quite the same thing I suppose.
I don’t know if they will be starting any new movies in the near future. Even if they get the COVID thing under control, no one knows what it will do to how people live. Will anyone want to go to the theater for a while? I suspect most movies will be written for direct to TV distribution.
Anything with a “cyberpunk” aesthetic owes far more to Hardwired than it ever did to Neuromancer, so in a way, Hardwired has been made into thousands of movies…
