I see this is labelled as “Author’s Definitive Edition”. How does that differ from the copy I bought back in December?
There’s no difference at all. This is an early version of the cover, with a couple mistakes (including calling it Book 4 when it should be Book 5). I just didn’t have a good picture of the real cover.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Pursuant to Fleet Elements, I’ve been listening to it on Audible. Do you have any input on the choice of narrator/reader/performer on the audiobooks? Victor Bevine is not great. David Drummond did a much better job. Just started it, and the most glaring thing is the differing pronunciations of Harzapid. David had a better grip on the character voices. You could actually tell the members of clan Martinez had a “backwater” accent.
Colin, David Drummond was unavailable for Fleet Elements. I like his readings a great deal, though I don’t care for him giving Martinez such a hillbilly accent. He may be from a provincial world, but he’s an aristocrat on that world.
I’m not always given a choice of narrators on my works, and I don’t remember whether I had a choice on this one, but if I picked Victor Bevine, it was because he was the best of those I was offered.
Thank you for responding! I’ve always interpreted Drummond’s version of Martinez accent as an audible reminder that the rest of the “non-backwater” peers could not bear his regional accent. I expected it to be exaggerated.
Also, if you ever want someone to read the Drake Magistral books, I’d happily do that for a discount off the going rate. 🙂
