Interesting interview, thanks.
I was left wondering if there is any reason why you didn’t mention Investments or Impersonations? (Publishing conflicts perhaps?)
Hm, how did you come up with the idea of the Praxis? Was it a commentary on the reactionary tendencies of MilSF that intones paeans to authoritarianism with alarming regularity, or to make it clear to the reader this isn’t a story where the central conflict is resolved by someone inventing a shiny new super-destructive spaceship?
Well, now I guess I can’t use the shiny super-destructive spaceship plot. Thanks a lot!
I wasn’t reacting to anyone else’s MilSF, because mostly I don’t read it. (For why, see my essay “The Froomistat Conundrum” somewhere in the archives from 2015.) I tend not to think of the Praxis books as MilSF anyway, but as stories about complicated people who happen to be in the military.
I wanted to write about the collapse of a big authoritarian/oligarchic system, and its replacement by [spoiler deleted]. Any resemblance to contemporary events is coincidental.

Mainly it was lack of time, I suspect.
