A T. Rex is Reading My Mind!

This edition of Dinosaur Comics pretty much sums what’s been going on in my head since I bought the latest model MacBook.
If part of this isn’t showing up on your screen (darn MacBook anyway!), click on the art to get the whole picture.

Before long, everything will be wireless. This will be double-plus-ungood because, it will be a wonderful new pathway for those with bad intent to steal our data and control our devises. Big Brother will be happy.
On the other hand, the lack of wires will not prevent our equipment from becoming obsolete. New wireless standards will pop up by the moment. I am sure, they will all cause interference with each other.
Wow, I am in a cheerful mood today.
This is the reason my significant other recently bought a refurbished IPhone 4G, since he has multiple chargers, docks, etc that aren’t compatible anything newer. So far, my Windows/Android devices are still using old school USB cables. We’ll see how long that lasts.
We got our first Internet of Things device last month; our thermostat is now connected to WiFi and gives us a weather report in addition to telling us what the indoor temperature is. It’s cool, but I do wonder what sort of vulnerabilities we’ve left ourselves with.

I think the end-all of them will be LiFi. It’s line-of-sight only and high bandwidth. No more competing for the fourteen available 802.11 channels with five hundred other businesses in your office tower. And all you need are a few LEDs.
Biggest problem will be getting the manufacturers to use a security protocol that hasn’t been compromised by the NSA. (See for example the “Heartbleed” bug. “Oh, oops, we just happened to add a bug that leaves off a boundary check and dumps your entire computer’s memory to anyone who asks, purely an accident, so sorry.” Paranoid? Moi?)
BTW, WJW, you can get a USB-C to USB-A adapter plug for about a buck. 🙂
Speaking of new wireless standards, I just bought a new wristband heart rate monitor, and guess what? I can’t configure it with my 2013 Google Nexus, because the monitor only works with Bluetooth 4.
