Double News Day
by wjw on April 26, 2018
So a big box of proofs for The Accidental War arrived on my doorstep today. Looks very action-y, doesn’t it?
The Accidental War will be released in September, but it’s already available for preorder at your favorite book venue.
Since I got a whole box of them, I’ll probably be running a contest shortly. Stay tuned.
Elsewhere in the world, Tantor Audio has released Angel Station as as an audio book. Also available at your favorite venue, or at Tantor its ownself.
The Praxis goodness has been pre-ordered. I’m looking forward to it.
Excellent, on both counts.
The audio sample of Neil Hellegers reading Angel Station sounds fine. I imagine you have no control over these things, but I think it would be stellar to hear John Lee (who has been great with Alastair Reynolds’ books) reading your works, should more of them make it over to Tantor.
As to the contest, let me suggest you ask a series of questions about the punk music scene in a totally random state, like, say (and this is just off the top of my head) Ohio.
If you want to go that way but need help with the questions, let me know, I can hook you with some experts.
Pre-order done.
Neil Hellegers was my choice for Angel Station, though I was given only a short list of Tantor’s readers available during a shortish time frame. I also got a sample of his reading another SF novel, in which he did a creditable job of making sense of some absolutely terrible, terrible writing. I figured if he could make dreck like =that-= sound good, he could do well with Angel Station.
Pixlaw, I figure groups like the eels and X__X and the Bizarros are too well-known to make proper trivia questions. I’d have to go for the punk rockers out of Idaho, and even then I’d have to stay away from Audio Karate.
Ooh! I just pre-ordered the new Praxis book! (Just a heads up, there’s no sample for the audio version of Angel Station on Amazon or Audible.)
WJW, please feel free to leave this comment unpublished if you don’t want to talk about it.
I read one of your earlier blog entries where you mentioned that “Conventions of War” had been “published dead”. WHY?? Is the publishing industry really that brain-damaged? It’s one of the best SF novels I’ve ever read. Complex characters, great writing, an exiting plot, even a story-within-a-story for the murder mystery complete with red herrings and a very-well-thought-out resolution. The series has done well enough that it was even re-picked-up so that now you’re writing a second trilogy, so clearly the loons in NYC blew it the first time around and have finally realized their mistake.
Honestly, I was just trying to come up with a way to make it easy for ME to win the damn contest.
Here’s a good one: guess the names of at least three of Pixlaw’s late pets. That’ll stump a few people. Just a suggestion, of course.
pixlaw, your motivation was perfectly transparent. I was just messin’ with you.
(By the way, Autocorrect insists your name is “pillow.”)
Shrdlu, the short answer is: Yes, publishing is that brain dead.
Dude, you have a ginormous fan base. Just write what you want and self-publish. With Bitcoin you can be like Dagmar and “Escape to Earth” — get 100% of the take. Have that Italian guy doing your covers and you’ll be unstoppable. (His weird “Rubik’s Sphere”-ish space station would be perfect as a wormhole station for one of your covers — maybe for a Severin novella, hint hint!)
Etaoin, I’m not sure the idea of a ginormous fan base is supported by my sales figures, but here’s hoping.
There are . . . dozens of us? 🙁
I hereby pledge to redouble my efforts in spreading awareness of your works!
