Punch-Drunk
by wjw on October 23, 2017
I haven’t been posting for several days, because I’ve been trying to finish The Accidental War, which (according to the publisher) is Book IV of the Praxis series, but which (according to me alone, apparently) is Book VI, because I count Impersonations and Investments, and they don’t.
See? It even has a cover! Though this may not be the actual cover when it’s released, at the moment it’s just sort of a cover suggestion the art department is playing with.
Wow! Sure looks like MilSF, doesn’t it?
Anyway, for the better part of a week, I was sure that I’d finish the book tomorrow night. Except the book just kept getting longer, and tomorrow didn’t come for quite a while.
But last night, or actually the early hours of the morning, tomorrow finally came, and I finished the book and sent it to my editor.
So today is tomorrow, right? I’m so punch-drunk I can’t quite work it out.
I do know, however, that the book should be out next summer in trade paperback.
I am even more punch-drunk because this morning the roofers turned up. We’re getting a new roof, which will be nice when it’s done, but isn’t nice at the moment, because there’s nonstop scraping and hammering, and inside the house it’s raining dirt and paint chips, and I haven’t been able to sleep, and I really need to.
I need my sleep because tonight I’ll go back to Quillifer II. There’s no peace in the house, day or night.

Next post: The Nutella War
Raining dirt and paint indoors? Isn’t that a sign of the This Old House End Times? What will Norm do? Is it true that Tom is the Anti-Christ?
Aww man, I was hoping for a hard cover book. But, I will take it any way I can get it. I’ve really enjoyed the series.
Congrats on getting to ‘The end’ on another one. :). One day I must pick your brain on how you keep two books in your head at once. I totally can’t do that.

Praxis book six, great news!
This is exciting news! I’d missed that you were working on a full-length Praxis book. I’ll try to sneak in a re-read of the first 3 books since to refresh my memory of the details before next summer.
Susan, don’t forget “Investments” and “Impersonations” in your rereading! It will really help in understanding the new one.
James, I’m usually all to happy to think about anything other than my current project. When I was working on the new Praxis book, I couldn’t stop thinking about Quillifer. Now that I’m working on Quillifer, I can’t stop thinking about the next Praxis book.
Speaking of…

Book VI ? A Reason To Live Another Year!
Fantastic news about Praxis VI! If we’re looking to preorder, is there any recommended method to make sure you get the biggest cut? I.e. Amazon vs retail/etc?
Josh, Praxis VI is currently scheduled for September 2018.
I don’t know what the prices for the trade paperback and the ebook are going to be, so my advice (as always) is to buy whatever edition best suits your reading pleasure.
After all, if I didn’t want you to read a particular edition, I wouldn’t have made that edition available.
