This thing looks like you might find it at IKEA, but you’d be wrong.
I’ve seen it before. I think it’s a baritone recorder, but it might be an ultramodern bassoon.

I thought the mouthpiece looked like one and I’ve played woodwinds, so I *could* have come up with a correct guess after counting the holes.

Yes, it’s a sub-contrabass recorder, first patented in 1975 by Paetzold, and made out of plywood. The sound is similar to that of a didgeridoo.

I would never have suspected it was a musical instrument.
Every time I look at it, it looks like a prop from some Star Wars movie. It just has that Lucasfilm *look*.
