Something old
Something new
Six brand-new books
Just for you
I am insanely pleased to announce that I’ve sold six new books, three each to two different publishers.
“Something old” would be three new books in the Praxis series, sold to David Pomerico at HarperCollins. Readers have been wanting more of Martinez and Sula, and I’ve been wanting to provide that, but publishing wasn’t ready. Till now.
“Something new” would be Quillifer, a brand-new epic series I’ve sold to Joe Monti at Saga. I’ll save the details for later, though I will say that it’s unlike anything I’ve ever written.
Though some pages exist, these books are largely unwritten, and so the first Quillifer book won’t be out till 2017, and the first Praxis till 2018. So I’m afraid you’ll still have to be patient.
I’d like to thank the editors for being amenable to my writing two series at once, and cooperating as to deadlines, etc.
I’ve never sold six books at a single go before, so I’m just the least bit nervous. But I know I’ll manage, because I really want to write these books. I’ll just have to remind myself not to get sick. Or pregnant.
On the positive side, I know what I’ll be doing for the rest of the decade. Which is to say, what I like to do above all things: write.
Nice work mate! Looking forward to reading the new Praxis books, I always felt that the first trilogy was just the set-up.
Quillifer: SF, Fantasy, Other?
Congratulations, Walter! That’s very exciting news, both for you and for us, you loyal readers. Patience will be hard, but it’s worth it for new Walter Jon Williams books!
Oh, brilliant! I’m one of the people who was dying to see more of the Praxis series, so this is excellent news.
“I’ll save the details for later, though I will say that it’s unlike anything I’ve ever written.” — and this is *such* a surprise to the fans who have wended their way through your magnificent mad leaps through all the genres….
Huzzah! I loved the Praxis verse, and am excited you have a new series in the making, too. Exciting news.
I look forward to meeting you in 2017 in Helsinki!
Looking forward to all the new stuff with interest…it will be nice to see what Sula has been getting up to…
Wonderful news! Can’t wait to pick up the new books.
You sir just made my day better! Love love love the Praxis series and I cannot wait for more. And a brand new series from you unlike anything before? I cannot wait!
Of course now comes the hard part of waiting for these series… Maybe I can put myself into cryosleep for the next few years.
Congratulations to you and to us, your faithful readers. It’s going to be hard to wait for the new books. Actually not, while I wait I’ll just re-read the ones I have enjoyed already.
Yay Walter!
Kaleidoscopic! This is most excellent news, sir. My wallet groans in sweet anticipation of coming pre-orders.
Let’s hope the SyFy deal for the Praxis universe books follows soon thereafter!
“Though some pages exist, these books are largely unwritten, and so the first Quillifer book won’t be out till 2017, and the first Praxis till 2018. So I’m afraid you’ll still have to be patient.”
Patient? Patient? Patient is waiting for at LEAST a month or two, max, before getting to read your new work. Waiting for years upon years is beyond patient. It is the existential equivalent of the slow progress of glaciers creeping across stony scarp. While entire civilizations rise and fall. Or something like that.
Oh, well. I guess we’ll just have to be strong.
Congratulations, nonetheless. I look forward to reading whatever you publish next.
Congratulations! I’m looking forward to both series, but particularly fore more Praxis. Question will the Sula-on-Earth novella still be coming out soon, or is it going to go into the new series?
Congratulations! What a coup.
All this and Helsinki too! This is fabulous!
Congratulations!
As your loyal fan, I would like to say, “YAAAAAAY!” And I just did.
Yeah, I’ve had a great couple of weeks!
James, the Sula-on-Earth story will be out next year, from Tor.com. It wasn’t part of the other deal.
Dude. DOOOOOOOOD.
This is wildly exciting! Congrats!
Fantastic news, sir. Can’t wait. And congratulations.
Yay! But…
I don’t want to wait that long. I’m going to need a fix of something some time in 2016.
You’re too old to get pregnant. Go. Write in peace. The crones so declare it.
Wow. Epic. I am in awe of you, sir. Congratulations, and get thee to a writing-desk!
Oh frabjous day!
Walter, this is delightful news! Well worth waiting fir. I have especially enjoyed the Praxis series thus far. Ooh! What kinds of trouble will they get into now?
Thanks, Walter. I was hoping the Sula-on-Earth would be a standalone and i will keep a beady eye on Tor.
Most excellent news! I’ll be looking forward to reading all the new books, and am very pleased a publisher finally had sense enough to buy more Praxis books.
AHHHH congratualtions! I’m so excited, I’ve been pining for more Dread Empire books for years! Absolutely fantastic, and best of luck!
Right! Good thing you got all that vacationing out of your system, because it looks like you have real work to do now!
Huzzah! Both for more Praxis (which I recommend whenever I see an opportunity) and for the new series. (Saga Press has been bringing out an impressive line of books.)
Congratulations! That’s excellent news. Amid all the speculation that conventional publication is dead, you go and prove us all wrong.

All saints in heaven, is it Christmas already?
A new Sula story and sequel trilogy? Really made my week catching up on WJW news. Personally I hope the new releases will help to raise public awareness of you and the Praxis series. In my eyes its one of the finest specimens of SF, and at the very least among the best military space operas out there. Deserving to be as well-known as Honor Harrington, if I may say so. With a bit of luck it will catch somebody’s eye and receive a graphic novel, video game, TV show or even a movie option.
Wishing you the best for your other endeavour as well. Saying its atypical of your previous catalogue implies it won’t be like Metropolitan or even The Rift, so I’m looking forward to see it materialize.
“Quillifer unlike anything I’ve ever written” so, supernatural romance, then? I *told* you that the way to commercial success was sexy vampires!
Mazel tov!
