I’m in one of those dark Nordic moods, and so I need to listen to soul music, which— given my heritage— would be Maria Kalaniemi, virtuoso accordion player, and her composition “Skimningspolskan.“
Listen closely, close your eyes, and you can just about see the dancing dwarfs lurching to the music on the shores of the mist-shrouded lake.
Well, as for the music, tastes differ. Personally, I am a bit allergic to accordion, which one has to hear a lot in Finland.
What I want to say is, that when I started fighting for WJW as a possible, even probable crown prince to Jack Vance, I had no idea that he has Finnish roots, so let there be no doubts about chauvinistic motives.
What is frustrating is that although my opinions on the website have in few months had more than thousand visitors, only TWO persons have expressed an opinion about the matter. Friends of WJW should come to help in greatsfandf.com>site front page>FORUMS>Author Suggestions>Walter Jon Williams.
Arno
Wow. Whenever someone said “accordion,” it USED TO BE that I’d immediately brace myself for “Lady of Spain.” Wow.
Jerry, there’s a collection called “Squeezebox Planet” that has the most AMAZING accordion music, much of it from Africa.
Arno, I grew up in a Finnish-American environment with accordions all around me. But none of them were as good as THIS.
