Geek Fail!

So there is an actual political controversy now over President Obama’s mentioning the “Jedi mind meld,” with demi-geeks and geek wannabees claiming that he mixed up Star Trek and Star Wars, which should never be done, ever.
I feel duty-bound to point out that there is a Jedi meld, and that furthermore I was the first person to write about it, in my one-and-only tie-in novel, 2002’s Destiny’s Way. as well as the related novella “Ylesia.”
And furthermore, you can just google “Jedi meld” and learn this.
So to all the demi-geeks and geek wannabes who now have egg on their faces, may I just offer the following suggestions?
1. Before you open your mouth, review the literature.
2. If reading the literature hurts your brain, try Google.
Because otherwise, y’know, all that sarcasm might just turn around and bite you.
Or better yet, attack politicians on substantive issues. Ignore Bush’s “nukular” and concentrate on his illegal surveillance programs…and ignore Obama’s “mind meld” and concentrate on HIS illegal surveillance programs.
It’s not like anything is going to be accomplished by outrage and voting, so I’m not sure that prescribing that is anything other than political malpractice, but somehow we’ll accomplish even LESS by concentrating on stupid trivia.
That’s way too much to hope for.
I knew it! It’s just like that one episode of Stargate: Deep Space Nine.
