I’m back in New Mexico after over six weeks abroad. The security people in New Zealand tried to have me thrown off the plane, but eventually it got sorted. I think it’s down to my astonishing physical resemblance to Abu Nidal.
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but while I was away the Northern Hemisphere seems to have got decidedly cooler.
I know what you mean… various airports and Federal buildings have had facial recognition scanners since the early 1990s, and I’m expecting an eventual confrontation with Homeland Security.
You may have noticed there are fewer faces than people; one of the people who shares my face is terrorist Hasan Nasrallah, leader of the Hezbollah.
Since I’m a few months older than him he’s obviously the doppelganger… we’re not only the next thing to identical twins, we even have the same glasses and hairstyle.
Back in the early 1980s the local police adopted a quick-check database. Officers would radio in a name, a clerk would key it in, and the terminal would tell them if there were any open warrants for that person. Apparently, the system used only first name, last name, and city of residence. I had a few *very tense* encounters with the local PD over the next few years, since the system didn’t differentiate between individuals. There were five people in my little town at the time with the same name I have, and three of them were felons or habitual offenders.
your infrequent but pointed posting was well received, sir.
Found myself thinking of your posts when watching “The Hobbit” in Abu Dhabi yesterday … New Zealand looks awesome 😉
Glad you made it back safely. I’m waiting for the day I’m traveling internationally and someone confuses me with the (now deceased) Major General, US Army Chemical Corps, of the same name. Though it would be much more cool to be confused with the Dutch film director. Probably less fun to be mixed up with the California lawyer.
