Western Sunset
by wjw on December 21, 2010
It’s that season when old friends come to town, when social occasions like fondue parties, tree-decorating parties, dinner parties, and party parties all start crowding together.
This is one reason why I haven’t been online much, and haven’t been posting much here. Cuz, dude, I have friends who want to see me. And they are all so awesomely cool that I have to go.
(Well, I suppose I could have live-blogged the fondue party. “We are now trying the Gruyere. Wow! Tasty!” But I decided to spare you.)
I did get slowed down this last weekend, when I was hit by a fever of 101 and a compulsion to spend the day in bed sleeping, which I did. I’m pretty much over everything now except for the compulsion to lie around doing nothing, but that’s probably just indolence.
Yesterday, because I wasn’t up for any more exercise than walking, I went out along the acequia in later afternoon, and enjoyed fresh air and pleasing winter scenes of the bosque. Hundreds of honking sandhill cranes zoomed overhead, heading for their resting places on the Rio Grande. And there was a nice sunset.
Just not this sunset. I don’t remember when I took this particular picture, except that it’s clearly taken somewhere in my neighborhood. But this is a nicer sunset than the one I actually saw yesterday, so by all means enjoy it.
All of which is a very roundabout way of getting to the point, which is that there’s a much larger version of this sunset available on our 2011 Calendar.
Yes, I’ve done it again, assembled a calendar out of pictures taken on various excursions through time and space. I don’t make any money on these calendars, they’re just a way of sharing my existence with anyone who may be interested.
You’ve got to have a calendar for 2011 anyway, you might as well have this one. (Now there’s a slogan that will send you stampeding to buy copies in your thousands!)
So there. The most lackadaisical and uninspiring sales pitch ever. But click on the link, check out the pictures. They’ll inspire you, if anything will.
Come on, you;re a science fiction author. Couldn’t you have come up with an eastern sunset?
