Concept Sci-Fi is running a fiction writing contest. You must write a science fiction story that is exactly 150 words long, excluding the title. The story must actually have a story, it can’t be just pretty words on paper.
150 words isn’t going to take a huge chunk out of your day, so why not enter? You could win a gift certificate to Amazon worth twenty whole pounds stirling.
And— did I forget to mention?— I’ll be the judge of who wins.
Prepare, mortals, to submit to me!
Here are the details.
I’ll Be the Judge of That!

I love precision short stories. Sounds like fun!
I have always wondered if you count the title or not.
Isn’t that “pounds sterling”?
I hope they’re paying you for this!
And I don’t care whether it’s in pounds stirling or sterling!

How about payment in shelf space?
Not counting the title:
“Twenty Whole Pounds Stirling”
It was a sad but festive day for the small few who had been graced by his odd codicil, that soupcon of any idea that only a true Heinlein devotee would execute.
It was a small affair; no grand re-enactment this. A tribute: just the juicy bits, the finest of filets. Guests wondered if, as with Sea Bass, the part behind the eye would be served. They discussed whether his exercise regime meant the flanks or loins would need to be tenderized.
There was fierce competition for the heart. Allocations were determined by solving quadratic equations, as specified in the codicil.
Only one person failed to attend, a Chicagoan who had neglected to update her passport. (Canada had reacted poorly to President McCain’s comment of “54-40” during the last G8 meeting.) Otherwise, it was a glorious feast. At the end, they all toasted, “To Steve” and knew they honored him.
Ken, I don’t claim to have more insight than the average person, however, I don’t think this is the place we submit our stories.
That said, I have an epic story that I have been working on that starts at a frat party and ends with the proton death of the Universe. It has about 12 main characters.
I think I could pair it down to 250 words. If I tried to cut it more, I would have to remove a religion that is based around singing bar songs. The story does not work without the way of the song 🙁
Ken, that was pretty freaking amazing.
You really should submit it to the Concept site.
